# columnFormat

> FullCalendar v3 documentation, for an old release. Web version: https://legacy.fullcalendar.io/v3/columnFormat
>
> Latest version (v7): https://fullcalendar.io/docs/dayHeaderFormat.md

Determines the text that will be displayed on the calendar's column headings.

<div class='removed-notice' markdown='1'>
This settings has been renamed to [columnHeaderFormat](https://legacy.fullcalendar.io/v3/columnHeaderFormat.md).
</div>

<div class='spec' markdown='1'>
[format string](https://legacy.fullcalendar.io/v3/date-formatting-string.md), *default*:

```js
'ddd'     // like 'Mon', for month view
'ddd M/D' // like 'Mon 9/7', for week views
'dddd'    // like 'Monday', for day views
```
</div>

As noted above, each view has a specific default. Get fine-tuned control with [View-Specific Options](https://legacy.fullcalendar.io/v3/view-specific-options.md). A single string alone will set the value for all views.

The default values will change based on the current [locale](https://legacy.fullcalendar.io/v3/locale.md).
